The floods in early 2022 were devastating for many parts of Queensland. Homes, businesses and livelihoods were destroyed. In Aspley, the Beds n Dreams store was damaged through this natural disaster too. A store 760m2 in size, and all its contents, were damaged by the unusual rain events.
Our team at CMLS Commercial Interiors were called in to help with a refurbishment. We had a big task ahead of us, so to complete this and get the store back up and running in the shortest possible time, we created a project plan.
Then the work commenced. We started with a full strip out of all existing internal partition walls, doors, flooring, sections of ceiling and electricals – all damaged by the floods. We had to remove the plasterboard sheets from the internal perimeter walls so we could dry out all the wall framing and concrete slab before any new works commenced. This was a complete refurbishment, and it needed to stand the test of time.
Once everything was stripped and dry, we moved on the cleaning and treating all the existing perimeter wall frame with an anti-mould treatment. Before reinstating any plasterboard, we conducted detailed moisture testing to ensure the best possible outcome and performance into the future. New plasterboard partitioning and doors were then installed throughout the site.
Then came the aesthetics and décor. We organised freshly painted walls and doors throughout, followed by new carpet and vinyl flooring too. When everything was ready, we installed new electrical wiring and lighting for the store, as well as new joinery. The project was complete with a new reception area too.
Whatever project you are undertaking, the most important aspect is the safety. All our works were completed with the highest possible safety standards on site.
“It was devastating to see the damage throughout the store. We knew the only way to complete this refurb was to start from scratch and strip it bare. We needed to ensure all the moisture was eradicated so there were no lingering mould issues – which can be damaging to both the building and people’s health. After our moisture testing passed the checks needed, we were confident that we could start rebuilding the store. Moisture is not something you want persisting as it can cause ongoing issues – our testing and moisture treatment application ensured this wouldn’t happen. We’re proud of the end result to help this business get back up and running in such a short time” said Kevin Cunningham, CEO and Owner of CMLS Commercial Interiors.
